MISSION STATEMENT

Don Bosco Boarding House (DBBH) offers board and lodging and other formative opportunities to DBTC High School students. The DBBH admits elementary students on case-to-case basis.

It is not a correctional or reformatory house for troublesome boys!

It is a House where the boarders live in serenity, friendship and family spirit under the guidance and brotherly presence of the Salesians, who demand, as part of formation, discipline and co-responsibility from all.

The very fact that you wanted to be a DBBH boarder and you applied means that you are willing to accept all the conditions and the regulations as required. We invite you to comply fully with what is asked of you and you will enjoy every moment of your stay here and grow in wisdom, knowledge and grace.

GUIDES IN THE BOARDING HOUSE

1. FR. RECTOR
Fr. Rector is the ‘father’ of the boarders. He has the over-all management of the DBBH. He delegates the direct management to the Boarding House In-Charge.

2. FR. CATECHIST
Fr. Catechist takes care of the physical and spiritual health of the boarders.

3. Boarding House In-charge
He has direct management of the Boarding House. He gives permissions that are outside the ordinary schedule. He may dismiss a boarder with the consent of his House Council. He maintains the intellectual and behavioral discipline among the boarders.

4. BROTHER – ASSISTANTS
The brother assistants are the daily companions of the boarders in all their activities in the boarding house. They make sure that the activities go on smoothly.

SPECIFIC HOUSE RULES

I. ACCORDING TO THE PLACES IN THE DBBH

A. DORMITORY

1. Maintain peace and silence at all times. Avoid unnecessary talking. When the need arises, talk in whispers. Avoid horse playing, eating and wasting time in the dorm. Maintain the same behavior in the lavatory and the clothesline veranda.

2. Confine all foodstuffs in the locker.

Motivation:
Foodstuffs invite ants.

3. The dorm is open only at designated times during the day outside of which, it is locked and no one is allowed to enter it. With a justifiable reason, the request to open it outside the ordinary schedule requires permission. The dorm is also off-limits to non-boarders; entertain visitors in the parlor.

Exercise foresight. / Respect and consideration for the hectic schedule of the brother – Assistants / Security of our things

4. Leave your bed and cabinet in proper order and alignment. Leave nothing under, over or around the cabinet and the bed. Keep the shoe rack, the clothesline, the luggage area and lavatory clean and orderly.

Motivation:
Self-discipline / Becoming organized / Aesthetic beauty

5. Place a towel around your waist when changing your clothes. Be fast and considerate to others when using the faucets and shower rooms. Conserve water and make sure the taps, faucets and shower are properly closed. Leave the toilets, shower rooms and washing area clean. Use your time well when you finish your shower and washing ahead of time by arranging your things, aligning the beds and cabinets reading a book, etc. all the boarders leave the dorm together for the next activity.

Good manners and modesty / Consideration for others / Time is precious. / Cleanliness / Orderliness / Orderly movement / Monitoring so that nobody is late or out of place

B. STUDY HALL

1. The study hall is a place of study and learning. Good study habits train the mind and character. Maintain an atmosphere conducive to study by observing self-discipline, control and silence.

2. Observe orderliness and cleanliness. Avoid things not related to study.

3. Avoid bringing in and eating foodstuffs.

Motivation:
Foodstuffs invite ants!

4. No cell phones, radios, walkman or cd players

Motivation:
These are valuable yet may disturb one’s serious study. / Silence in the study hall

C. DINING HALL (SCHOOL CANTEEN)

1. Observe table manners and right etiquette during meals.
2. Take only a moderate serving of food to avoid wastage.
3. Let utensils, furniture, and cleaning tools remain in the dining hall.
4. Encourage everyone to engage in a cheerful conversation while eating.

D. SCHOOL CLINIC

1. Sick boarders stay in the school clinic especially when the dorm is closed on school days.
2. Family members may visit the sick boarder.
3. The DBBH will provide the medicine for common ailments only.
4. Limit the length and minimize the volume of the conversation during visits.
5. The sick boarders should avoid conversation among themselves in the school clinic.

Precaution against contamination / Family support / Health Care / Respect for the sick & privacy.

II. ACCORDING TO THE DBBH SCHEDULE

A. RISING / SHOWERS (6:00 A.M.)

1. Everybody must stay in bed until 6:00 a.m. and must maintain silence.
2. Maximize the use of your 30-minute period for taking showers and for arranging your cell.
3. The boarders leave the dorm together and proceed to the canteen in silence.

Respect and consideration for those who maximize the time for rest/ Time is precious./ Orderliness

B. BREAKFAST (6:30 A.M.)

1. Proceed to the school canteen for breakfast.
2. Say your prayers before and after the meal personally.

Motivation:
Sustenance for the day’s activities/ fast Mobility

C. FREE TIME (4:00 P.M.)

The boarders may use this time to play games, taking snacks or for some other forms of recreation.P1090457

Motivation:
Physical fitness/ Character formation

D. SHOWERS (5:30 P.M.)

This is the time for washing one’s underwear, socks, handkerchiefs and other little things. Minimize conversation with the others.

Motivation:
Work value/ Health and hygiene/ Orderliness

E. STUDY PERIOD (6:00 P.M.)

1. The brother assistant rings the first bell- the time for borrowing of things and for personal necessities.
2. At the sound of the second bell everyday goes to his place for the prayers before the study period.
3. After the prayers, everybody sits down for the serious study period. Avoid all forms of communication to anyone. For urgent needs, raise your hand to call the attention of the brother assistant.
4. Avoid all non- scholastic activities.
5. Every boarder should make his study schedule.

Foresight / Organized study period/ Divine assistance/ Self- discipline/ Respect for others/ Peace & Order

F. SUPPER (7:30 P.M.)

1. The boarders from their lines inside the school canteen in silence.
2. The assigned leader sees to it that every boarder has a rosary before entering the canteen.
3. Observe good manners during the meal.
4. Relate wholesome stories to companions. Minimize standing and roaming while eating.
5. The kitchen area is off-limits; ask from the counter for extra food or for other needs.
6. At the sound of the bell, everybody keeps quiet and stands up for the thanksgiving prayer.
7. Everybody leaves the table free from anything.

Gratitude to God / Foresight / Character formation/ Health care/ Service to others/ Family Spirit.

G. THE HOLY ROSARY (8:00 P.M.)

1. The assigned leaders animate the participation of the boarders in the recitation of the Holy Rosary.
2. The holy rosary ends with the good night talk of the Salesian priests or brothers

Filial devotion to Mama Mary/ Insights for a Christian’s daily living

H. RECREATION (8:20 P.M.)

1. The boarders will organized play games.
2. The boarders may use the pay phone if they want to call up their parents.
3. Every boarder who will engage in strenuous activities should bring a small towel and an extra shirt.

Motivation:
Physical fitness/ Social interaction/ Family spirit/ Health care

I. CHORES (9:00 P.M.)

1. The boarders proceed to their assigned chores after the oragnized games.
2. The brother- assistant assigns the boarders to the different sections of the DBBH for cleaning.
3. The assigned leaders follow-up their members in the efficient cleaning of the DBBH.
4. Avoid conversation during the chores.

Punctuality/ Work Value/ Creativity & Initiative/ Co-responsibility/ Cleanliness/Teamwork

J. REST (9:30 P.M.)

1. The boarders proceed to the dorm in silence. Extension of the study period would not be allowed.
2. After ten (10) minutes, the brother assistant will put the lights off, everybody should be in bed and asleep.

Motivation:
Respect for others/ Foresight/ Reserved energy for the next day

K. GOING HOUSE (FRIDAYS 4:30 P.M.)

1. The brother assistant opens the dorm (4:30-5:00 p.m.) for the boarders to pack up their things for the weekend break.
2. All boarders should go House for the weekend. They fill up the permission slips, secure the authorized signature and give the slips to the guard at the gate.
3. Empty the clothesline.

Motivation:
The Salesians have weekend apostolate in the Youth center/ Quality time with the family/ Monitoring & evaluation/ Care for one’s clothes

M. COMING BACK (5:00 p.m.)

1. All the boarders must be in the DBBH by 5:00 p.m. Upon arriving, they leave their bags outside the dorm.
2. The boarders form their lines outside the dorm for the checking of attendance.
3. The boarders spend this time for taking showers and for arranging their cabinet and bed.

Motivation:
Proper disposition for school on the next day/ Monitoring & Evaluation

III. OTHER MATTERS

ON PERMISSIONS
A boarder must secure permission from Fr. Catechist when he has to be out of the DBBH Schedule. Once he gets the permission, the boarder should inform head brother assistant.

ON THE CARE FOR PERSONAL BELONGINGS
1. The boarder prints his name on all his personal things.
2. Refrain fro keeping large amount of money and valuable gadgets in the dorm.
3. Respect each other’s property by asking clear permission when borrowing things and return them promptly after use.

DISCIPLINE

The rules and regulations on proper conduct for Bosconian as stipulated in the School Diary will apply for the Boarder Bosconian.
